To achieve the highest level of academic quality, Winchester University Press ensures that all editorial and peer review procedures are of the highest standard, and that they are carried out both rigorously and transparently. The minimum requirement is that reviewing is conducted by independent peers, and that editorial boards and editors (including series editors) should not act as main reviewers.
The press maintains close links with the University of Winchester Research Ethics committee to ensure that all publications are processed according to recognised protocol.
Winchester University Press ensures that all research is rigorously peer reviewed by external readers. The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for best practice are followed at all times.
We believe in the values of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, which states that open access "…will accelerate research, enrich education, share the learning of the rich with the poor and the poor with the rich, make this literature as useful as it can be, and lay the foundation for uniting humanity in a common intellectual conversation and quest for knowledge."
Our commitment to unfettered Open Access is demonstrated by our application of Creative Commons open licences for all WUP publications.
Winchester University Press strongly encourages its authors to make the research objects associated with their publications openly available so that peer reviewers are able to better assess the foundations of claims made, and the research community and wider public are able to similarly validate authors’ work, and are more easily able to extend and build upon it.
All WUP content is indexed with CrossRef and assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). As a consequence all of our references are made available so that citations can be tracked by the publishing community.
